Breck Epic - Stage 2 - Colorado Trail
Breckenridge, Colorado

Amanda Carey Takes Over Lead While Todd Wells Solidifies His Advantage Over Grant

Some big shake ups happened today on Stage 2 of the 2013 Breck Epic. Riders conquered some big time climbs followed by about the best singletrack descending Colorado has to offer.

Sue Haywood (Stan's No Tubes) started the day wearing the leaders jersey but held just a handful of seconds over second-placed rider Amanda Carey (Stan's No Tubes). The No Tubes duo stayed close to each other in the opening portions of the race but Carey began to pull away when Haywood suffered a flat eventually falling back to fourth by the finish.

Amanda Carey took over the race lead now 5 minutes 36 seconds in front of Kate Aardal. Haywood remains third in the GC.

In the open men's race yesterday's runner-up Alex Grant (Sho-Air/Cannondale) suffered an early flat tire that required multiple stops to finally fix allowing race leader Todd Wells (Specialized) to open a sizable gap.

After finally repairing the flat Grant chased throughout the stage and finally regrouped with Wells at the front. After chasing the Sho-Air rider had nothing left in the tank when Wells made his race winning move on the day's final climb.

By the finish, marathon national champion Todd Wells put almost 2 minutes into the chaser.

Last year's Breck Epic winner Ben Sonntag (American Interbanc) finished third.
