Iceman Cometh - Traverse City, Michigan

Canadians Dominate Iceman as Kabush and Pendrel Win

Once again several thousand of mountain biking's hardiest racers lined up in Northern Michigan to cap off their season with the speedfest known as Iceman Cometh.

Annually one of the largest and fastest mountain bike races in the United States this year's Iceman was dominated by Canadian talent as Olympians Geoff Kabush (Scott/3Rox) and Catharine Pendrel (Luna) made the short trip down from maple leaf country to take on some of America's top talent.

Following tradition at Iceman the men's race came down to a sprint finish with a lead group of 6 riders vying for the top spot on the podium. Kabush provided the biggest kick across the line taking the win over Todd Wells (Specialized) and Jeremiah Bishop (Sho-Air/Cannondale).

Bishop took an early solo trip off the front but ultimately couldn't hold off the large chase group as they caught the Sho-Air rider with about 5 kilometers left.

A mere seven seconds separated the first 6 riders to cross the finish line.

The women's race proved a bit less dramatic as Pendrel established a lead of over one minute on runner up Chloe Woodruff (Crankbrothers).

Woodruff had to deal with Mackenzie Woodring (Einstein Racing) who challenged for the second spot and finished less than 30 seconds back.
