Sugarbush Super D - Sugarbush Resort, Vermont
Sugarbush Resort played host to the Vermont State Super D Championships this past Saturday. After a week of rain, the skies cleared in time for the racing on Saturday, but the trails weren't so quick to come around. After a brutal initial uphill sprint off the line, racers ducked into the woods onto singletrack that featured plenty of roots, drops, rocks, berms, bridges, and mud over the course of the nearly eight minute run.
With passing almost impossible on the singletrack, the uphill start was key. Adam Snyder (ADIGGA Racing) turned himself inside out on the climb to hit the singletrack first, followed closely by Seamus Powell (Giant). The two battled it out on the singletrack, but the decisive moment came on a short gravel road section. Snyder washed out just a little bit in a sweeping corner, and Powell took the opportunity to take the lead. "I figured if anyone could pass on that road section, good on them," a frustrated Snyder said afterward. "I gave Seamus a little bit of an opening and he took it." Powell was able to hold on for the win, with Snyder taking second.
In the women's race, Allison Zimmer (Xprezo) dominated from start to finish. Nina Otter (Mountain Moxie) was second into the woods and lead the pursuit for nearly the entire race. However, Kate Parhiala was able to sprint past Otter just before the line to snag second overall.
