The southeastern mountain bike season wrapped up with the annual Sycamore Cycles Swank 65 race last weekend in Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina.
For the first time in years, local Sam Koerber was not on the start line at the Swank. That left the door open to a number of past podium finishers including Garth Prosser (Specialized), Jacob McGahey (Industry Nine), and Wes Dickson (Sycamore Cycles).
In the end though it was Tristan Cowie (Sycamore Cycles) who delivered the goods. Cowie, a former collegiate national champion, set a new course record at the Swank en route to his first ever victory at the race. He was able to real in early leader David Wood (Liberty Bikes/I9) take the win by more than 15 minutes. Wes Dickson also rode a strong second half of the race to take second, while Wood hung on for third.
On the women's side Kym Schifino (Sycamore Cycles) continued her winning streak in Pisgah. Schifino won the Pisgah Stage Race earlier in the year, and didn't appear to have much trouble adding a Swank 65 title to her resume. Michelle Conklin took second while Jana Morris rolled across the line in third.
