Racing a few hours later in the heat of the day, the U23 men's race saw an epic battle between Keegan Swenson (Cannondale) and Howard Grotts (Specialized). Swenson was able to jump in front of Grotts on the descent, and headed into the final lap with a 4 second edge. Swenson gap held to the line, with Grotts taking second. Sep Kuss (BMC Project Dirt) was in the hunt all day, and ended up with the bronze medal.
